Hi everyone from EDT 6020 this my blog about publishing. My instructional unit was a follow up project on publishing. The class was taught about different software applications available for publishing. The students were also taught how to use different templates.
The actual follow up project for the collobrative groups was this:
Each group is a small publishing company, and a new restaurant wants them to publish a menu, a flyer for grand opening and a brochure with a take-out menu included.
I used igoogle for a website and was able to make my own widgets which is really cool. The document transfer after downloading is another great feature in this project. When you make changes in a document, it saves the changes in all folders.

Caroline, Great idea. I too, love all of the publishing tools that are available to us. A teacher friend of mine and myself are going to begin an i-google and start up some things for next year. I can't wait for the summer so I have more time to go over and look into deeper all of the things we've learned. There are so many options! I've been teaching for 16 years and wish these things were available a long time ago. I like the widgets as well. Again, over the summer I'll have time to "play". I can't believe how many options there are.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll also help my son create an i-google environment. He will love all of the "fact - related" things.
That is a good idea for your son he can keep all his research links together. I too plan on playing with my igoogle account. I told my husband last night I plan on keeping this web-page for school use.
ReplyDeleteCaroline, I really like your lesson plan. I definitely think students will be highly engaged. I am sure your students love being in room. How engaging is this blog? I love the fact that you can hook students outside of school on your blog all the while they are learning and they don't even know it. Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteAs for collaboration, try windows live mesh! Another teacher in another building and I use it to share items. It is free and by Microsoft. The nice thing is that you can put anything into it. Also, I have a folder on my desktop and so does she...anytime I add items she gets and vice versus! It rocks! Also, you can put anything in where igoogle limits you to pdf powerpoint and word.
last, try fliggo. if you go back to my blog you will see that i added geography videos that i have to it. now students can access my united streaming videos anytwhere...how cool!?
Caroline, what a great lesson. I think that it was a great idea having your students collaborate on publishing a menu, flyer, and brochure for the opening of a new restaurant. I believe that it is a lesson that all students could "sink their teeth in." Great concept!
ReplyDeleteI too love iGoogle, and hopefully this summer I will become an expert with all the different iGoogle gadgets. Therefore, I can help my students set up their own iGoogle Environment, and help them collaborate through Google Docs.
